Introduction: There are times you may need to perform video data recovery on Intellex units. This document explains the procedure to recover the SPECIFIC video of interest.
Example: I am looking for an incident on Camera 5 on February 14, 2008.
Here is the process on how you can recover the video data.
REQUIREMENT:
- Intellex 2.5.9, 3.X, or 4.X unit
- A USB drive or an empty IDE or SATA drive.
Note: the size of the USB drive dependants on the number of IMGXXXX.AVI files you need to recover. If you are recovering 10 “20MB IMGXXXX.AVI files”, then the minimum size requirement is 200MB. So, a 4 GB USB drive should cover it.
SOFTWARE TOOL YOU CAN USE TO RENAME IMGXXX.AVI FILES VERY QUICKLY IS THE “BETTER FILE RENAME”. A free trial can be download here:
http://www.publicspace.net/windows/BetterFileRename/download.html
PROCEDURE:
- First, you need to find the file / files of interest on the Intellex hard drive containing the camera number, and the date / time you want to recover. The Intellex video file convention is IMGXXXX.AVI where XXXX is the 4 digit number recording starting with the number 0000 and incremented by 1. Each file size is either a 20MB or 100 MB segment depending upon the Intellex units. The AVI files reside on the data drive under the ImageDB\DirXXXX directory.
- Exit the Intellex program by selecting Utility > Exit. Contact technical support at 800-507-6268 for the exit pin code.
Once in the Windows desktop, navigate to each Intellex data drives and open the “VOLUMINFO.XML” file with NOTEPAD. You will need to change the value from a “0” to a “1” on each of the data drives on your Intellex unit (see Figure 1). Save the “VOLUMINFO.XML” file and exit. Repeat this step on all of the remaining Intellex data drives.
- Now, connect your USB thumb drive or Internal drive to the Intellex unit and launch your Intellex program. When you see the display message saying that a new volume has been detected, you need to ADD this volume to the STORAGE as it will initially have EMPTY status. Make sure it is an ACTIVE STATUS after you add it.
Once the new added drive is ACTIVE, exit the Intellex program and go to Windows explorer. Find the files of interest and rename the file to IMG0000.AVI and put it on the USB thumb drive under ImageDB\Dir0000. If you have more than 1 file, you need to rename the next file to IMG0001.AVI, IMG0002, etc and so on…….If there is a lot of files to rename, you can use the file rename tool from the link. http://www.publicspace.net/windows/BetterFileRename/download.html
TIP: There are 256 files in each directory starting with Dir0000 and increment by 1. Follow the “Intellex database Index Range.xls” for the filename range.
- Launch your Intellex program and go to Setup > Storage. Find the drive that you are planning to recovery the video, highlight it and select Remove. This will change the drive status to Other Intellex. Now, highlight the drive again and select Repair button.
- Once the repair is completed, it will display the message showing how many errors it found and fixed. Select Ok and close the Storage window.
- Now, highlight the drive that you are recovering the video and add it back to the Storage. Verify the drive is ACTIVE.
- Once the drive is ACTIVE, you can press the selected camera you want to recover and then the Play button. Then drag the playback slide bar to the date and time you want.
- Once you see the clip you are looking for, select the LEFT flag icon to mark the beginning of the clip. Let the clip play forward and select the RIGHT FLAG icon to mark the ending of the clip. Select the EXPORT button to export the video clip to the CD/DVD media. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete exporting of the video clip.
- COMPLETE.
